On completing 75 years of Indian test cricket, Hyderabad Times goes down the memory lane to recount the achievements of test cricketers from Hyderabad. As the formidable Indian team took on England in the test series at Lords this Thursday, it evoked historic memories of a bygone glorious era. Seventy-five years ago, at the same venue, on a bright summer morning the Indian tryst with cricketing karma began when CK Nayudu led the Indian team in their first ever test match against a Douglas Jardine-led English side.
The bunch of nobodies did manage to hold on their own and had their formidable hosts surprised at 19/3 in twenty minutes . The English captain was the only one to save the team from blushes at the end of the day.
WORLD RECORD: Two junior cricketers from Hyderabad - Manoj Kumar and Mohammed Shaibaaz Tumbi, both 13 years old - created history when they made a world-record 721 runs in 40 overs, eclipsing the 664-run stand between Sachin Tendulkar and Vinod Kambli in 1987-88 . BLOOPER: Hyderabad has not been able to emerge as a great test match venue. The Lal Bahadur Shastri Stadium has hosted only three test matches till date with the last being held in 1988. Maybe things will change with the Rajiv Gandhi stadium coming up in Uppal. day. As we begin the historic test series to mark the 75 years of test cricket in India, here's a toast to the exploits of the most celebrated test cricketers of Hyderabad.
